Brian & Margaret Rigby. Brian
We were both brought up in very good homes where the name of God was respected and from the age of three we went sent to a local Sunday School both in the morning and afternoon. There we learnt about Jesus but attending Sunday School and then church services was just a matter of habit and a place to meet with our respective friends. This was the norm for most children brought up in our generation and it never occurred to us to do anything different. Although attending the same church we were not an ‘item’ until our later teens.

It was customary for our church to have special weekends when teams from Cliff College would take meetings and services. Individually, and on different occasions, we were converted, having come to realise that we were sinners and needed forgiveness to be right with God.

We eventually married and moved to London where most Sundays we would attend the services at Central Hall. We later moved to Dunstable and we have been blessed with God’s gifts of three children. Sadly, as time went on, the family and sport took God’s place in our lives and for some years, bible reading and prayer were practically non-existent. Although the children went to Sunday School and we occasionally attended family services, our commitment to the Lord was not what it should be. It was not until our elder daughter was converted that we were challenged as to our state before the Lord and over a period of time He graciously worked in our lives and brought us back to himself. Through reading and studying the bible we began to understand more and were challenged about baptism. Having previously attended Wesleyan Reform and Methodist Churches this particular teaching had never been part of our upbringing but now we realised that this was an act to be carried out in obedience to the Lord and we were both baptised on profession of faith when we were in our forties.

God has been so good to us over the years and in spite of our faithlessness He has been faithful and as we look back we can see that even when we were far from Him He over-ruled in many situations and was gradually leading and guiding us to the place where He wanted us to be. We have been helped by many people through the years but to God be all the glory and all the praise.
